Using a Moogerfooger ring mod in performance

This video was shot live at the Blue Note in Tokyo Japan when I was touring there with Kazumi Watanabe. In the bass solo I’m bringing the Moogerfooger ring modulator in and out of the mix using an expression pedal for an almost distorted effect. It’s subtle (at least I hope i’m not over-using it!) and I think that’s what makes any effect effective – not over using it. Later on this week I’ll release the video tutorial on how I set up my ring mod, and talk about my concepts for why I use it and when I choose to use. This style of documenting shows is something I’ve been doing a lot in the past six months, and something I’m going to release on the site regularly for members. Hopefully it can give you an up close and for the most part great sounding idea of what it’s like being on stage in all kinds of different situations. So enjoy the live footage from Japan, and leave a comment below!

Live at the Jamboree – Part 4

This is the title track from “The Space in Between” from our 2nd night at the jamboree in June of 2011. Check out the seriously symphonic comping of Tim Miller, I want to see some posts in the forum about this one, there’s a lot to be learnt from transcribing some of Tim’s chordal work. It can really enhance your vertical perception of harmony in a big way.

Live at the Jamboree – Part 1

So as some of you might have seen, in June of 2011 I took my band to Barcelona and streamed two nights (four sets) online and charged for tickets. The VIP level of online ticket included a free download of the shows, and we plan to cut a digital download DVD together this fall and sell it online. But for all the members of this site, you’re going to get access to the footage included in your membership! This is the first in a series of videos from the shows, and the song is “Four Brothers”. Enjoy!
