We’ve come to our two week break from 12 week courses, and I’m getting stuck into your questions in the forum and answering them with video replies! This week’s question is on composition, and we have one more week of video answers next week before we start our brand new course, so hop over to the forum, and post your questions for me to answer! This content is for members only.
This was a video that was never actually intended for the site, but after a post in the forum about working on composition I thought this became relevant. It’s just me running tape to catch an idea I was having while writing some new material, and instead of writing it down it seemed quicker just to hit the record button on the camera and play my idea into the lens as I originally intended it. It can be quite hard to convey an emotion or a particular phrasing when notating music sometimes, so with a recording or a video like this there’s no forgetting what it is you played when you first had the idea for the song. You’ll notice that I repeat the melodic idea over and over again which is part of my process for both learning and writing music. This content is for members only.
Improvisation doesn’t have to just be left in the moment that it was played… some ideas I come across when I’m improvising stick with me and become compositions. Here are some concepts for developing that side of your playing. This content is for members only.
